History
The House of Care was founded in 2000 as a home and hospice for those with low incomes, little or no family support and terminal illness. As Medicare and Access improved coverage for hospice services, the mission of House of Care was expanded to include those who had a medical need for assistance with activities of daily living but did not have the finances and/or family support to obtain that assistance.
The House of Care maintains a long-time relationship with the Borough of State College, PA. Initial funding for the House of Care home purchase was made possible through the State College Community Development Block Grant Program, and we continue to apply for CDBG grant funds each year to help pay our staff salaries. The House was the former residence of the Anthony family, and they donated a portion of the cost of the house to the House of Care, and continue to support our mission through their giving. We are a partner agency of Centre County United Way, and also partner with the Centre Foundation. The House of Care acknowledges with great appreciation support from the M. W. and Margaret S. Schreffler Fund, the Chernega Family Fund, the Anniversary Circle grant, and the Discretionary Fund of Centre Foundation. We have established an endowment fund with Centre Foundation where donors may make direct donations. Other grants we have received are from the FREAS Foundation, the Ferguson Foundation, and the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund. Since 2000, the House of Care has become home to 68 individuals, and has been served by a volunteer Board of Directors, an Executive Director who also functions as the Administrator, and a dedicated Direct Care Staff that is on site 24/7/365. The House of Care operates under the PA Department of Public Health Personal Care Home guidelines as described in Title 55. Public Welfare, Chapter 2600. Personal Care Homes. We are inspected annually and maintain our license through compliance to regulations. The House of Care's annual inspection reports can be found at this site: http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/searchforprovider/pchdirectory/index.htm |
