Bruce Anthony and his sister Linda lived at 515 W Beaver Ave in State College while their father was obtaining his PhD from Penn State University.
Their mother had an Open Door policy, housing and hosting numerous foreign exchange students, and Bruce fondly re-calls the aromas of the exotic foods they would cook in the kitchen.
When the House of Care was incorporated in May 1994, Bruce Anthony donated a portion of the cost to buy the house at 515 W Beaver Ave. He believed in the mission of the House of Care, and wanted the home to continue to have an Open Door to those without the family or financial resources to live on their own.
Fast forward now to December 2012… HoC Executive Director Audrey Smith got an email from Bruce stating that he wanted to make a memorial donation in his sister Linda’s name, and asked what our greatest unfunded needs were. Audrey replied that we needed:
1) a reliable van to transport residents,
2) the installation of replacement windows in the House to increase our heating and cooling efficiency,
3) the replacement of the roof, and
4) the conversion of our oil furnace to a gas furnace.
Bruce and his wife Jean proceeded to write a check for the Linda M. Anthony Memorial donation to the House of Care in the amount of $40,000!
Below is a photo of the 2004 Honda Odyssey which was purchased from Dix Honda with part of the donation. We use it to transport residents to doctor’s appointments, lunch outings, and field trips. This is an answer to prayer, and we are very grateful to Bruce and Jean!
We will document the other projects being funded with this donation as they are undertaken!
